SCUMM, the programming language used by most LucasArts adventure games, had also changed. They also began to make their games compatible with Windows, eliminating DOS compatibility with CMI. Starting with Full Throttle they also stopped putting games on floppy discs, instead relying solely on Compact Discs. Starting with the re-release of their next game, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, all LucasArts adventure games featured voice acting. Adventure games had changed dramatically for LucasArts since LeChuck’s revenge. Those two were Grim Fandango, CMI’s sister project as well as the company’s first 3D adventure game, and Escape from Monkey Island, the only game besides Grim Fandango to use the LUA engine. After CMI, LucasArts would release only two more adventure games (besides the Special Editions of the original two Monkey Island games). It was the final game to use the SCUMM engine and it represents the height of what the engine could accomplish. If the first two Monkey Island games signify the beginning of the height of LucasArts adventure games, the third game in the series, The Curse of Monkey Island, signifies the end.
